MHS and Life in Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka ,UTeM begins

Hi , everyone. I am so so excited to be able to get this place . Been waiting like forever for the announcement from the goverment for our upu results. Finally, it is here.

Got my result on the 8th of october !!! Damn happy. Its like a dream come true.

To be able to see the word TAHNIAH ! I imagine that every single night and pray almost everyday for this. Thank you Lord for answering my prayers.

I am just a below average student, did not do really well in my STPM and only got a CGPA of 2.67. From what I have heard from my seniors and teachers, you do not expect to get a place into local uni if your CGPA is around 2.5 , or if you get one it might be at Sabah and Sarawak which is not one of my options.

The minimum requirement for applying UPU is CGPA of 2.00 .  I actually get so so much help from one of my senior named Steven. Eventually ,he is the one that convince me and strengthen my decision to apply UTeM. As you can see my course is Manufacturing Engineering.

After I got the confirmation online, immediately went  ahead  to prepare my stuff. Went to Gov hospital to do a medical checkup as required. X-ray , Urine and blood test. I paid RM30 . From what I know, if your know your blood group ( including weather its positive or negative ) , you can request not to do the test and save RM10.

There is actually so much to prepare. I have to go and open a sspn-i account and also bank islam because I wanted to apply PTPTN . Please do it early and settle it quickly so you will have a peace of mind afterwards.

Registered on the 29th of august. Location is the main hall. From what I experience, their system and organisation of the registration date can be given a 9/10 . From the first counter to the welcome gift counter. So efficient. I think I finish giving all the details and got my hostel key in like 10 mins.

The welcome gift this year very nice. We got a 10000mah Powerbank  , Pineng and also a collar T.

My hostel for this year is at Al-Jazari. Its for guys only. There are few  hostels which are Lestari, Makmur, Sri Utama, Bunga Raya and Emerald Park. Here are some pictures of my room. Taken after I finish my orientation week.

Living room

My room

This room is actually so much better that I can imagine. FYI , the table , wardrobe are new if not mistaken. No any dirt or stain on them at all. Those staying here must be damn lucky. The wardrobe and table are both attached to the hall, so no shifting here and there. My room wall are actually more cleaner that other rooms. Thank God!

Below are some views from my room. My roomate and me did our own laundry during orientation week ourself as the washing machine room is not open yet. We hand out cloths at the window.

2 bathroom, 2 toilet , 3 sinks , 3 mirror

After my parents and bro sent me, we went for our lunch . After that, they sent me back.  At 5pm, all the newbies gather downstairs for dinner. First dinner, beside the drain cause too many people and man the sambal was HOT!

After that, lined up and UTeM provides buses that will take us from out apartment till the Main Hall. About 5 min drive. And week of suffering begins!

I could  not remember much. But I know we did a lot of shouting, clapping, body movement , hear some ceramah. Reached home about 12 in the morning. Bath and then sleep at about 1am. So tired.

Next day, BANG BANG BANG ! The facilitator for this Minggu Haluan Siswa (MHS ) will go house by house, door by door, at 5am with the loud speaker making the loud freaking annoying noise to wake us up.

So, to those that coming into Uni. Be prepare. You will definately dozed off during the talks in the hall. But be alert also lah, there will be a few Faci that will be holding their camera and taking pictures of you sleeping. Those will be uploaded almost every night in a short clip and will be up on the screen before leaving the hall each night. Expect laughter and hahahahahhaha from 2500++ student in the hall.

I think this year MHS is a bit more grand. The Menteri of Malacca also came and give a short talk. As a chinese that grow up in a primary and secondary Chinese school. It is definately different here. You will hear the melay recite verses everytime before they give a speech. Eye-opener.

Even when we break up in groups , before the discussion starts, they will like have a short prayer or something.

This year, I also celebrated Merdeka Day in UTeM . We had events and waited until the clock strikes 12 at night. We sang the Merdeka songs and also swing our small flags.

We had five days of orientation. The fourth day we went to out own faculty. Did register our koko and foreign language online. Went to Manufacturing faculty to listen to talks from lecturer who will be teaching us. Was also intro to our PA ( the professor who will be taking care of us until we graduate )

For the last day, there were performance from all the 4 kolej kediaman. Lestari, Al-Jazari, Sri Utama and Emerald Park. Al- Jazari got first. We also celebrated one of the Hal Ehwal Pelajar professor that is retiring on that day, as well as singing birthday song. We spontaneously did a Flashlight edition when they dim the lights .

Spend my orientation week mostly with them. From left, Ming yao (my roomate ) , me , Jia Huei and Jin Yao (both from Yu Hua ). So much fun!

Ended the orientation day yesterday (friday ) , had mixed emotions . Finally, its done. They even posted a few pictures and video of some parents who cried when they sent their kids over to UTeM during registration day.  Asking us to look at them, and to know that we carry that responsibility and to never disappoint them . As I am typing and thinking of that moment, I still have goosebumps , its so real and I never want to disappoint both my parents and people around me.

During one of the talk or Moral sessions, when the Melay student went for their prayer, a Chinese Lacturer with the name of Cheong , she asked us to write something that will motivate ourself on a piece of paper , keep that paper and make sure to do it. She shared about  her life, and how she struggle before she manage to publish her Chinese-melay book, which also got a reward. She said no matter what religion you are, if you do your best, you play your role, the God will bless and reward you.

Another guy also said something so true , it goes something like this.

''Set your dreams and targets above the sky, so that even when it falls, it falls among the stars''

The race composition for this Intake from what I heard was 7:3 ( Melay : Other race )
Quite a lot of Chinese actually.

So, to a new semester and also hopefully get a CGPA and GPA of 3.75 every sem. I will do my best!!!

Phillipians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ who Strengthens me.

They provided our breakfast, tea break, lunch, dinner during the whole week. No worry at all. If I can make a change or two, i would like to have toilet breaks in between sessions. There were several times we were not allowed to go to the washroom, they wanted us to sit down and said later later. Even after the 3rd time, still did not allow us to go. I am not really sure why but I know they have their reasons.

Finally, I would like to thank all the Facilitator and Seniors for all their hard work to help us. They are indeed the best and forever UTeM-PADU !

oh, and I just ate my lunch.
RM3.50
Will be blogging about this place more often in the future. Can't wait for what is waiting for me over here.

Till then,
Cheers.
